Multifunctional Beam

Multifunctional Beam

The aim was to create an interior of beams that merge into one another and thus become a whole. The beams would act as support and ambiance.
Because making a complete interior was a bit too ambitious, it was decided to make one beam that shows how the interior could look like.
The challenge was: make a multifunctional wooden beam out of residual wood and to produce it by robot.

The design, seen on the right, is a Y-shaped beam with a groove for lights and a variation in thickness. It has curves and a natural look. It is meant to look like an actual simplified tree. The other beams would connect at the end.
To make the beam feasible for production, the design has been adjusted and the side branches have been removed.

Two prototypes were made.
